First time {spattering} with ink

I have loads of cards I need to make for the coming week - the last week of the 2011-12 school year! Yahoo!  I'm really lookng forward to a change of pace and a little much needed down time before my summer jobs start - but first, I must get cracking on some cards.

I wanted to make a special card for the two girls that have worked in my classroom all year - they are moving on to high school (*sniff sniff*) so I wanted to send them off with something special.  I thought this was a good time to try out the "spatter" technique since there's a challenge for that over at Moxie Fab World and I've never tried it before!  I figured the girls would like this since I actually do a blood spatter lab with my students (I teach a little unit in forensic science), I just haven't tried it with ink before, haha! 

Hopefully they will make the connection :)

I added a few black pearls and red twinkle stickers for added pop.  School colors, of course :)

baby part 2

It's really astonishing to think about how many people in my life right now are immersed in baby land.  Whether pregnant or just given birth, I'm sorta feeling like babies are taking over the world at the moment.  It's funny how life happens in waves like that.  

So, that brings me to baby card #2.  I liked the general concept of this card I did, so I went with that as a starting place and just changed the colors and stamps.  I did peek at photos the Mom had posted of the nursery to try and compliment that.  I guess that's my strategy for the baby card - go with something the Mom likes.

I still think it needs a nice martini glass... the Mom would also like that, right? :)

Mr. Harley {Kitten} Shurkus

Yes friends, today I blog about a cat.

You heard me right, a cat.

But this isn't just any cat.  This is for the one and only Mr. Harley Kitten Shurkus, who, on this day, is celebrating his third birthday.  When my good friend Jenn decided to challenge a few of us with doing a blog hop on his birthday, how could I resist?

I mean, come on, look how stinkin' cute he is!

(Apparently he loves to squeeze into this paper scrap box Jenn keeps on her crafty table.)

So, without further adieu, my happy birthday Mr. Harley card:

I'm told he really loves sunshine, so I tried to add a lot of that on the card.  I'm also told he loves to watch the birds, so I added 3 since, you know, he's 3 (I KNOW, wicked genius, right? LOL)

So, happy birthday Mr. Harley.  Thanks for spreading so many smiles because you are so darned adorable (even though you would make me sneeze like crazy, give me itchy watery eyes, and I've always been a dog girl... but I'll overlook all of that because you make my heart melt).

I wish you many days filled with sunshine and birds and boxes and maybe a bunny or two frolicking in the yard.

So stinkin' girlie

Can I just tell you, I *love* spring break!  I'm still getting some work done, but I'm enjoying the change of scenery, sleeping in, and getting things done on my timeline.  I got a little thesis work done today, helped a friend, and ran some errands during the light of day.  In fact, I was actually able to complete a challenge in record time for me.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... I could get used to this!  I wonder if they would miss me at work next week? ;)

So, I have a totally stinkin' girlie card for you today.  Loads of girlie colors, flowers, ribbon, buttons and ruffles!  I made this card with the daughter of a very special friend in mind.  She's now a big sister, and I thought this would be a sweet card to send to her.  

I couldn't wait to use my new *Clever GIrls* stamp set by a•muse|studio on this card - it's such a fun set.  I also had fun picking the fun color palate and making the flamenco-esque ruffles inspired by this gorgeous Japanese flower scarf.  I love the curvy edges!  This image is serving as this week's Tuesday Trigger posted by Moxie Fab World.  Anyone can play along!

Challenge fever

I'll admit it, I have challenge fever.  The only way to get over it is to make more cards I suppose.  Aw, twist my arm ;)  

 

When I first saw the Farm Fresh Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab world, I knew this would be a fun card to make.  The challenge is to make a card inspired by this photo:

I LOVE all that white space, which made me think of Glenda's Random Amusing Challenge 108: use something you've been hoarding/saving.  Ahh.... my white notecards!  I only have a few left and they are my *favorite*.  I love making cards with all that white space on them. 

So, I figured both challenges would be a good excuse to use a precious white note card for this:

As you can see, I love the orange pattern of the original photo and the punch of blue from, well, glassware!  Now, I don't know about my kitchen being "farm fresh", but I do know that if you visit I'll have a cocktail waiting for you!
